Not the Only One

Am I the only one to think that the Clintons are making the stongest case for why Hillary is the politics of the past and Obama is the politics that we need to move on to?

Marriage “Unless You’re straight”

I can’t imagine anyone not reading Andrew Sullivan. But if you don’t or you missed his link to the Keillor blog post by Dan Savage (who I have never read before) - read it.

Here is a snip:

Fuck Garrison Keillor | Slog | The Strangers Blog | The Stranger | Seattles Only Newspaper
People opposed to same-sex marriage are just fucking addicted to double standards. Marriage is about children—unless you’re straight, in which case you can get married without having children. Marriage is about monogamy—unless you’re straight, in which case you can get married and swing and cheat or have threeways. Marriage is about a life-long commitment—unless you’re straight, in which case you can marry multiple times, like Keillor.

Best Blog Comment and Post Today

After reading a really serious (and very interesting) article about homosexuality, by a man who obviously knows a thing or two about his bible, I read through the discussion thread which is fascinating and illuminating. The comment below cracked me up. Funny? Yea. Although if you actually think about it…

I didn’t find this on my own. Andrew Sullivan linked to the article on his blog. Andrew Sullivan by the way is fast becomming one of my favorite writers and thinkers.

Raised as a farm child in the midwest, these biblical laws were part of my childhood. As a kid I thought it weird, even though we lived it. As an adult I have the same feeling, though my days of believing this stuff is way over.

Anyway, it is a really good article

When religion loses its credibility
By Oliver “Buzz” Thomas

Galileo was persecuted for revealing what we now know to be the truth regarding Earth’s place in our solar system. Today, the issue is homosexuality, and the persecution is not of one man but of millions. Will Christian leaders once again be on the wrong side of history?

and the comment section is long and engaging. Go ahead click that link below.

USATODAY.com - OPINION

Bible thumpers, I need some advice on how to properly follow Gods Laws:

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?

7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

AP screw up or conspiracy?

Some people see conspiracy, some people see stupid. ROFL - I’m with this guy:

A comment on this post at Crooks & Liars-

“Jesus Christ. AP is as stupid as Fox News. Not only can they not remember what party Mark Foley (and now Dennis Hastert) belongs to, but Brit Hume can’t do basic subtraction either. C&L readers can try in their own homes — unlike Mythbusters, this isn’t dangerous: Subtract 1973 (the year Monica Lewinsky was born) from 1995 (the year she went down on The Clenis). Most competent non-goddamn-idiots get the answer 22. But Brit Hume kept getting 19. I think that’s the answer Rush Limbaugh got as well. Maybe someone switched his Hillbilly Heroin out and put Fucking Stupid pills in his secret bottle.”

A tale of two Bills - Clinton v. Frist

So today we got to see Chris Wallace interview Bill Clinton.

Notes:

  • It is good to know that at least some politicians will answer the fricken question.
  • Chris Wallace asked a fair question and I think he got a great answer.
  • Clinton seemed (quite right rightly, I think) to be ticked off that Bush and friends always seem to want to blame Clinton for not preventing 9-11.
  • It is about time the Democrats start answering those questions as strongly and directly as Clinton did on Fox today.
  • Democrats wake up - this is a real-deal president giving you a hint. Smack!

Then there is Bill Frist doing his best to dodge and weave over on ABC. I don’t watch that show, so I was unaware of the interview untill I saw it on Crooks and Liars (who has a video of Bill Frists’s  “interview without answers”) Noteable in the comment section is a comment that must be quoted:

Is this gonna be the standard operating procedure from here on out?

Everytime a report from the reality based community theatens to damage the Neo-Cons calm, all you have to do is go on the Sunday morning shows and say that you haven’t seen the report yet.

Commentator: Senator/Veep/Madam Secretary, this report contradicts everything you’ve ever said in public.

Senator/Veep/Madam Secretary: I haven’t seen it yet.

Commentator: Well then. I you haven’t seen it, then I guess that settles it. Sorry to wake up so early in the morning on a weekend.

Senator/Veep/Madam Secretary: No Problemo!

Commentator: By the way… What’s your favorite color?

Yeeshhh!!

“did I mention he’s fat?”

Some days all I can think about is dick. Other days all I can get accomplished is dick. Once in awhile I see Cheney speechifying fear mongering on television and all I can think is, ‘Oh My God it’s Dick …what a big dick!’

This a.m. - while dicking around on the blogs I read - this comment cracked me up:

By the end of the century it will be taught as fact in history classes in our public schools — if we still have them — that Clinton’s dick brought down both towers of the WTC.

I’m not sure who will get the blame for the Pentagon. Perhaps our grandchildrens’ children will learn how Michael Moore — did I mention he’s fat? — sat on it.

Think Progress » New ABC Docudrama Blames Clinton For 9/11, Praises Bush

What did Bill Clinton want to spend big bucks on? Check out this article. Unsurprisingly, it seems he had more on his mind than dick.

Aside: ‘V’ for Vendetta is a really good movie. I don’t care what the reviews say about it.
